About Rosalie Westphalen
Rosalie began playing the violin about the age of 12. After completing year 12 at Blackwood High School, she continued her music at the Flinders Street School of Music, enrolling in the Diploma of Music Performance, Violin. By 1993 she completed this qualification and began teaching the violin in schools across Adelaide, including Immanuel College. During this time, Rosalie also performed in local community orchestras and in amateur music productions. In 1997 Rosalie traveled to Canberra to do the Bachelor of Music at the Australian National University, where she began playing the viola. Unfortunately, illness prevented the completion of that degree and Rosalie returned to Adelaide.
After a short break from study, Rosalie completed the Bachelor of Music Studies at the University of Adelaide in 2006. Rosalie continued with yet further study, on achieving a first class honours degree in Ethnomusicology in 2013. In 2017 Rosalie also completed her Certificate in Education.
Music education has always been a prominent part of Rosalie's tertiary academic subjects. Indeed, Rosalie has taught the violin since the age of 19, while studying for her Diploma and has not stopped since. This gives her over twenty five years experience in instrumental education. She began teaching the viola in 2000 and from 2015 began teaching music theory. As of 2019 Rosalie is also a member of the Norwood Symphony Orchestra.
Away from music, Rosalie is an keen creative writer. She has a interest in language and languages. She commonly reads at least one book a week on a variety of subjects, but History is a favourite. Rosalie also enjoys walking in places across Adelaide, in particular the Belair National Park and the beach (where she may be seen, often dragged along by Letty the dog). She also has a pair of much loved, pet chickens and enjoys gardening.
